Lights

First night of lights tonight.

Unfortunately the cherry picker could not reach them to aim them. But that will be fixed week.

They will be a real benefit to our club.

Thanks to all involved who helped with the provision of these lights, but especially Past President Ed K , President Ian Kl and Dad Ian P. A big thanks to your efforts. Thanks to Brad Ellett for the inspiration many years ago on a cold wet winter night.

Our Past

Game 1 - Parent Comment

(by Chris R)

Great result.
Top of the Ladder

Well organised team.

Thanks to runners, water (it was needed), boundary umpires and timekeepers. Thanks also to the Canteen and BBQ. Leishy for marking the grounds. And off course our Goal Umpire Ben and his minder Steve - what a team!!!

Thanks especially to the coach and his support. It was great to see the way that the quarter and half time was run.

Well done to the lads for doing what was asked of them, and playing the game in the good spirit.

The organisation of the team and players was commented on by a workmate of mine. A long time resident of Mount Hawthorn, he was impressed by the general workrate and organisation that our lads put into their game.

Our team and Simon need a manager to step up to the plate. Can you please help him out? You will be supported.

President Ian informs that the lights will be in this week.

Game 1 - Coaches comment

Hi Everyone

Let me pass on my congratulations to the boy's for their excellent efforts during their first game of the season yesterday.

Many people have commented to me on their very high standard of play and more importantly the umpire commented on how dignified they behaved even though they were well ahead on the scoreboard of Ellenbrook team.

Training has been of a very high standard this year with all the boy's putting in huge efforts on the track. This was evident with their skills and run on the weekend , again well done boy's.

Training will be held this Wednesday 21 and Friday 23 April 5.00 PM to 6.30 PM. Thanks to all the parents who contributed on the weekend.

Please note we have a general bye this weekend as a mark of respect to the ANZACS. Our next game is on May 2 11.00 am at Menzies against Beechboro.

Cheers
Simon.

Game 1 - Cardinals vs. Ellenbrook Green

(posted by Callum Radecki)

Menzies Oval Mount Hawthorn - Sunday April 18 2010 Weather: Fine Warm

After a number of disappointing performances last year, the combined Mount Hawthorn Cardinals was up against the new team in the district from Ellenbrook, both looking for their first win of the year. The Cardinals have done weeks of preparation and twice a week training of footwork, handwork and fitness consisting of running up hills and a numerous boring number of laps around the Menzies Oval. Thanks coach

When the two teams lined up face to face, eyeing each other down to see who was the toughest and fastest. The two team captains came forward, shook hands and the umpire tossed the coin.

At the first bounce Aiden, Connor and Tom shared the ball around, and Aiden gave a long kick to Louis in the box and straight away a goal was kicked. The Cardinals had a cracking start, a good sign for the game. The Centres, Backs and Forwards where doing a good job, and the Dockers didn’t score a point in that term. That gave the Cardinals the momentum to stay focused and possessing more than Ellenbrook.

In the Second Quarter not much changed. The Cardinals back line was holding Ellenbrook scoreless. With Adrian G’s fine rucking, the ball was able to move out of the defence, if in trouble. Ryan’s running in the centre in that term was an individual performance with goals flowing from it.

The ruck work of Brandon was the best work anyone has seen with his bulk he just pushed the opponent out of the contest and always did a spectacular leap to finish it off. When the half time siren went, the Cardies were dominating the game and the signs looked good for the year.

After a stirring half time address to tired players at half time, we bounced back to produce one of the best quarters of football. We urged our tired legs to go the extra distance, and run the ball through the centre.

Mention must be made of the attack on the ball by the forwards, the contest on the ball coming out of their defence, and the running and support of players through the centre.

Special mention must be given to Tom Caddy for his efforts in defence.

All in a great start with Cardinals an decidedc win to a well fought game at the final siren.
