Round 8 Parent Comment

Coolbinia time 11:00 Weather :warm

Another close hard game

We were playing against a bigger harder team.

We played well. Backs played very well to keep the

Lessons to be learnt:

Dont kick near big players
Kicking to forwards - kick to leading forward with crummers following.
Kicking to forwards - keep low to our rovers.
Backs - use the line - never up teh middle, set up the kickout

Round 8 Coolbinia Bombers vs Mount Hawthorn Cardinals

The Cardies were ready for the second hardest game (Ballajura number one) of the year against the tall and fast Coolbinia.

The first bounce went up, and we cleared it out straight away. Once the ball was in our forward line, we locked it in there; but we couldn’t manage to get a goal because of the height of Coolbinia. They managed to break free, and we had none of our men back so they ran and ran and kicked a goal. At that stage we knew it wouldn’t be an easy game.

In the second quarter, we didn’t have any attack of the footy and Coolbinia were beating us in every single challenge, which made it very frustrating for us. They always attacked and kept us well away from the ball. We didn’t score that quarter and Coolbinia scored 4 goals and we knew it was going to be hard to come back and win the game.

After the half time talk of what we are doing wrong and what we’re doing right we knew we were still in the game and it was only four easy goals to chase down. We tried our best in that quarter and push our selves, but the bigger bodies of Coolbinia always beat us in the air which made it very hard to get the ball to the ground. We kicked two goals and they also kicked two goal. So when the siren went they were only up by four goals. Thanks to Ryan in defence they didn’t score more.

The final quarter was the best quarter of the day we defended very well and applied pressure when it was needed but it wasn’t enough to stop Coolbinia attacking and kick two goal and we only kick one goal. When the siren went we were all disappointed because we all knew we could beat them and next time we will.

Game 7 Noranda vs Mount Hawthorn Cardinals - Parent Comment

Early - 0915.  Weather too cold.

A hard game to play.  We did not seem to fire until midway through the game.  Seemed to be asleep for the first quarter with a fight back over the next 3 quarters.

Signs were good as we came back to within 1-2 goals

Game 6 Mount Hawthorn vs Mount Lawley - Parent Comment

A much better game.

We ran off our players - we worked well. Our decision making processes were much better.

The concern is that we rely on the stronger players to set the play. We have to work together to anticipate the plays and protect the ball carrier and give options.

Special thanks to

  • Sharron for manning the bbq on my behalf
  • Greg for doing goals
  • Alf for strapping - this is a big important work that he is doing
  • Jen and Julie for the work on the canteen - have a coffee.

Training is particularly important. We have to come to training with a mindset to apply ourselves for the full 90 minutes. At training, we will be tested in more difficult conditions than faced in the game.

We have to be switched on more at training than at the game. Training is not for relaxation. We have to listen and to work with our coaches. We have to suggest plays. We have to be creative

It is where we will win the next hard game.

We have a good set of players and coaches. The next step is to mould into a coherent team aware of the strengths and weaknesses of our players and coaches.

We have to bring our good game to Noranda - we have to work together for each other.

Game 6 Mount Hawthorn vs Mount Lawley

Location: Menzies - 11:00 Weather Warm

After a disappointing loss to Ballajura last week, we trained hard to beat Mount Lawley this week.

The first quarter started pretty even with the Cardies kicking the first goal and Mount Lawley afterwards, but that didn’t last long because we switched on with help from Aden and Chris.

The second quarter was a lot better than the start with the Cardies shepherding and laying good tackles and showing the cocky Mount Lawley team what the Cardies are made of.

The start of the second quarter was like the start of the first quarter, no one was pushing themselves to their full limit, but once Mount Lawley kicked an easy goal everybody on the Cardies knew they had to do something quickly before it was too late and they caught up. The second half of that term we played pretty good - we did all the one percenters. We manned up and applied pressure every time they got the ball. We kicked a number of goals, and the game was already slipping away from them.

The third quarter was a massive improvement. We didn’t let them score a goal and first gamer Jordie had a blinder stopping the ball from coming down to our end. We managed to kick a lot of goals in that quarter and in the final term we knew we were going to go out and play for percentage.

In the final term, we knew we had it won and now it was party time, and try and see who could kick the best goal. But that didn’t happen, we didn’t even kick a point, but that didn’t matter cause all they kicked was a goal. The final siren went, and the Cardies have had another win. We sang our song with pride and we were very proud to, because we knew this win was a big one after last weeks disappointment.

Next week we are playing Noranda Hawks at our home. We really want to win this one as well.
