Game 3 - Cardinals vs. Morley Bulldogs

(posted by Callum Radecki with a few edits by sub)

Menzies Oval Mount Hawthorn - Sunday May 9 2010 Weather: Fine Warm

Everybody on the Cardinals side was looking forward to today’s challenge against the equal 1st placed Bulldogs. After a bye, the Bulldog would be prepared to play us.  We all knew it wouldn’t be a walkover.
At the first match-up, everybody on the Cardinals was bigger than their opponent, including Jackson!  At the first bounce, we had the first clearance.  We smashed it into our forward line, where we locked it in and kept control of the ball and set up the first goal of the game.  We were off to a dream start!  We kept it up throughout the quarter with Lochie leading from full forward to give us a big option every time the ball was at our goal.  In that quarter we had kicked 5 goals to their 2. The Cardies were very happy with each other and how well we thought we went in the quarter.
In the second quarter, we were kicking with the wind, and were prepared to use it. Chris, Aden and Brandon dominated the centre that quarter, with rare possessions going to the Morley speed demons. Everybody was switched on in the 2nd quarter, and we all played well.  We kept them down to only 2 goals in that quarter and we were all happy. Adros defence on the goal square was outstanding, and didn’t let a goal sneak through. At the half time break, everybody was pumped and ready to finish the last half off and we were looking forward to a good win.

The 3rd quarter was a shocker.  No one was on their man, and the forwards weren’t leading or marking.  The centre had trouble to clear it out of defence, and the signs looked worrying. The Bulldogs smashed us in the backline running, tackling and marking the ball to kick 3 unanswered goals. The Cardies were really scared, and were fighting with each other.  They had moved the margin to 18 point at three quarter time.
In the break, all of the coaches were telling us what to do and what not to do. Simon inspired us and told us that we will win, and will be the best team of the day.
The fourth quarter was the best quarter that everyone has played and seen from the group of the Cardie boys. The first bounce was a great clearance from Chris and Aden, which Louis applied the shepherd to help.  Aden’s kick sailed into Nick’s hands and kicked a point, but from that point on, lots of goals and lot and lots of points were scored. The boys in the backline were amazing, and didn’t let the Bulldogs score at all in the last quarter.
When the siren went all the boys were tired because they put their heart into that quarter and got away with well fought 43 point win.
